Maryland Department of Natural Resources and Motor Vehicle Administration – Improving the Customer Experience for Maryland’s 200,000 Boat Owners

Maryland is blessed with beautiful waterways for recreational and commercial use, and as a result there are close to 200,000 boat owners in the state. Many of them expressed aggravation about having to register their boats with the Department of Natural Resources and then separately register the trailers for their boats with the Motor Vehicle Administration. The departments created a solution that now allows boat owners to register boats and boat trailers from the same location. In addition, the state identified efficiencies by co-locating Department of Natural Resources service centers within Motor Vehicle Administration offices. Additional streamlined services are also underway, including being able to register for hunting and fishing licenses at Motor Vehicle Administration locations.
